A very misunderstood self-help and relaxation subject is hypnosis. Perhaps one of the biggest reasons that hypnosis is misunderstood is that most people are only familiar with stage hypnosis. During all stage sessions, participants are pre-qualified, and only the most suggestible subjects are actually brought into the performance.

The second most common misconception is that many believe a hypnotist can bend their will to make them do odd things that would be out of character for them. The fact is that a hypnotist can’t make you do anything that you don’t want to do, or are incapable of doing. The subjects on stage performing outrageous acts are uninhibited and outgoing by nature, which is why they’re on stage in the first place.

Hypnosis is nothing more than guided relaxation. That’s it. There’s no real magic to it, although it can work wonders for the right subjects when used for self help (for example, hypnosis for smoking cessation). The objective with hypnotherapy is to put a subject or yourself into a state of relaxation, where your guard is naturally lowered and you’re more susceptible to suggestion. The hypnotist then implants simple suggestions by simply speaking them, and in many cases, repeating similar suggestions.

Another way to look at hypnotherapy is that it’s positive affirmations or positive self-talk made when the mind is relaxed. So there should be nothing mysterious about hypnosis. If you understand meditation, you understand hypnosis, i.e. leading your body and mind into a relaxed state.

If you happen to be a good subject, you can implant many positive messages into your subconscious, or use hypnosis to relax yourself, or quickly put yourself to sleep. This type of self-hypnosis is becoming more popular, e.g. weight loss hypnotherapy, quit smoking hypnotherapy, anxiety hypnosis, etc.

Smoking in particular is a good candidate for hypnotherapy because much of the addiction is psychological, and that is an area the self-hypnosis can help you address. After all, smoking, aside from the nicotine, really has little to offer the body, so an open mind should be able to quickly push aside cravings when the curtains are pulled back.

At the very least, hypnosis will help you balance yourself, relax, and lower stress levels. If you are a smoker, a hypnosis smoking cessation program might be exactly what you need, and you can safely participate in one without worrying about clucking at odd hours of the day!

Some individuals prefer to do automotive repairs themselves. This saves you a lot of money if you are mechanically inclined and have the proper tools. Over time the cost of the tools pay for themselves and can be a great investment. Of course you would not want to tackle any kind of repairs if you did not have the proper tools.

What does this have to do with stop smoking? Well the answer is very simple- tools. You want to improve you quality of life, get rid of that bad breath and improve your appearance. You want to feel confident when you speak to people. But most of all you want to improve your health. You need the proper tools to repair yourself the same as you do to repair your automobile.

Where do I start? The common approach for most people is the patch, while others favor herbal products. Some experts believe a combination of more than one tool will increase a person’s odds of quitting. Along with medicines are services available to assist with the smoking cessation process. You’ll want to put as many tools in your toolbox that you can.

A journal will make your toolbox complete and the benefits keeping a journal are substantial. When you begin the process to stop smoking you should consider including a journal to your toolbox and making it part of your program. A toolbox is not complete until you add a journal to it.

1. When you start the process to stop smoking, a lot of different emotions will be part of the experience. You may get anxious and frustrated, possibility angry at times. Journaling can be relief from the wide range of emotions you will experience when going through the process of quitting smoking.

Second, journaling alone can be used as a healthy alternative to the act of smoking. When you would normally be smoking a cigarette, you can instead take a few minutes to write some thoughts or ideas into your journal.

3. Keeping a journal will show your successes and shortcomings. You can compare the two and concentrate on your weak moments. Journaling will track the whole process to stop smoking and help you stay away from lighting up

When you are done, there are so many other valuable and important benefits that coincide with keeping a journal. Chances are great that you will be very happy that you chose journaling as one of your tools when you committed to the smoking cessation process.
