By Author: Mike Selvon
Article: The importance of an events calendar is irrefutable. Think of the many times that clients approach an events planner, requesting their services. It is only natural that he would document their various requests somewhere.

This is an ideal way to keep the clients well attended to and making sure that he does not disappoint them by any delays or giving them a different experience from what they expected. The calendar of events acts as a guide to the planner, who is able to schedule his work and employ more help in case the job involves more than one person can handle.

A calendar to keep track of upcoming events is much more like an ordinary diary; it aids the modern event planners who are under pressure from their job related demands. It is an important planning tool, which many use. Older versions of calendars involved manual work and one having to look back at the pages constantly to avoid missing events, yet the modern calendar is more sophisticated.

Courtesy of technological advancements, the special events planner just lists everything in the calendar-enabled gadgets. The reminder enabled gadgets act as good prompter tools and one can set the time to be reminded of an upcoming event.

An events calendar usually acts as a deterrent to forgetting any approaching event. To have an effective calendar, a planner should strive to type in complete details beside the event entry. The details should include the date and nature of the event, the client’s preference for the venue, such as a garden for an outdoor wedding, the client’s specifications on entertainment and food, as well as guest speakers.

The planner can ease his job by listing all the requirements he will need for securing the location and getting everything in order for the event, as per the calendar entry. If the ordinary calendar provided in the cell phones or PCs cannot handle as many details as the planner wants, he can opt for event management software. The program is custom made specifically for the busy professional.

Every entrepreneur who owns an event management company knows the value of satisfying the needs and demands of paying clients, by providing superior services. Apart from building a solid customer base, an events calendar helps in planning and organization, and to establish the company as one that provides superior services. Apart from that, the calendar allows the planner ample time to consult with the client about details.

By Author: Dean Caporella
Article: Time management exercises for home business owners are vital in getting the the most out of your business. While your skill in whatever area of expertise is certainly important, the importance of time management cannot be emphasised enough in helping you produce a profitable bottom line.

Many failed work-at-homers cite procrastination as one of their biggest hurdles and coupled with other factors such as fear and time wasting, their dream of earning an income from home remains just that… a dream.

Time Management Exercises

The following time management exercises won’t guarantee you success in your home business but they’ll give you a jump start on most who can’t or won’t tackle the problem of procrastination. Let’s get cracking!

1. Use a regular work area. Designate a place where all your office tools are in the one place. Eliminate any distractions.

2. Assign a time when you’ll be working on your business. Whether it’s 9-3pm or 8-12noon, you need to set down a specific number of hours you’ll spend on your business.

3. This goes hand in hand with the previous exercise. Isolate what part of the day you work best and are more productive. You may be a morning person or a night person or you like to work mid afternoon. Decide and then make sure other members of the household know your routine.

4. Work on one assignment at a time. Whether it’s making calls, working on accounts or writing articles and content for your websites, choose a task and stick to it. One tip is to plan your week or even month ahead of time. Assign specific tasks to specific days. Allow room flexibility but get into a routine.

5. If you have several tasks to complete on any given day then a great way to complete them is to start with the most difficult or most fearful chore first and work your way up to the easiest. This promotes a sense of achievement as you complete each task and you’ll be amazed at how your confidence grows.

6. Reward yourself at the end of each work day and taking it a step further, give yourself a major reward at the end of the week. These rewards can be whatever takes your fancy. For example, you might reward yourself by going to dinner or catching a movie or, if you live near a beach you might head out and catch a wave. It can be whatever you want it to be, within reason of course.

7. This time management exercise is one I have employed successfully with great results. It has a snowballing effect which can leap frog your business quite dramatically. Before going to bed, do just one more thing that may help your business. One more task that will make your day even more complete and instill a greater sense of satisfaction within you. It’s amazing how this puts you in a positive frame of mind and remember, by just doing one extra task a day multiplies significantly over the course of time.

By Author: Danette Hibberd
Article: If you’ve ever been to any of the major cities of the world such as Tokyo, London or New York, the first thing you notice is everyone rushing around, seemingly clueless as to their destination. Visitors always inquire, “Where is everyone running to?” In reality, the question should be, “Why is everyone in such a hurry?”

The fact is that it’s all about time. He’s late for an appointment; she’s going to miss the train or bus home; we’ll be late for the dance class. Sadly, the amount of time we waste worrying about being late is enormous. The realisation that effective planning is the key to saving time has somehow eluded us. Therefore let’s discuss easy time management techniques to effectively yield positive results.

Preparation

Make a list of things to do each day, including tasks to perform, appointments to keep, and any reminders.

Prioritise the List

When making your list of things to do, always begin with the most important item first. Then continue the prioritisation process as you complete your list.

Don’t Be Late

If you have an appointment, leave an hour earlier than the scheduled time. This will allow ample time to arrive at your destination and include time for unexpected traffic delays, phone call interruptions or any surprise hold ups.

Discard Perfectionism Ideals

As the old saying goes, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” This is actually true. If you have an important appointment to go to, don’t worry that your housework is not done, and the shower has not been scrubbed. Who cares but you? It can be done tomorrow, so don’t let these little problems delay you.

Avoid Procrastination

You have set out your daily tasks on your list. Ensure these are completed in order of priority, and not simply the easy or fun things. Items are on your list for a reason, so do what it takes to simply get the job done.

Don’t Be Afraid to Say No

This can be done in a polite manner and is necessary to avoid either delaying the completion of your own tasks, or a build up of tension in your own life. Imagine that you are working on a project at the office, but it is important that you leave to attend a dance class on this particular day. Your supervisor requests that you stay back for an extra hour or two to complete the project. Although feeling torn between your love of dancing and fear of upsetting your supervisor, you must politely apologise and say “Sorry, but not today. I have a previous commitment.” This is okay to do as you know that you work hard, always get your work finished, you are punctual and you are a very loyal employee. Your supervisor will accept your decision, and the project can be completed tomorrow, but you will still get your personal satisfaction by attending the dance class.

The crucial factor in time management skills is to not get side-tracked. Stay focused on your course, complete your daily list and simply be prepared. Your sense of self worth, satisfaction and achievement will skyrocket once you can effectively manage your time.

By Author: Andre Auerbach
Article: I’m sure there are things that you wish you have time to learn. Yet due to your busy lifestyle, you just don’t have time to master it.

In this article, I’ll show you some tips and tricks on how you can learn and master skills – any skills – faster than ever before. Let’s get started.

1. In whatever you want to learn, pay attention to it. Michael Merzenich of UCSF found that neuronal development happens only when the subject pays attention to a stimulus. This means to learn anything, you have to pay attention to it.

Yet it amazes me just how many people attempt to learn by listening to an audio course while driving! By multitasking that way, you’re not only decreasing your learning ability, you’re also adding unnecessary stress – a factor that causes the release of neurochemicals thatarticles brain cells.

Paying attention means focus. Dedicate a certain amount of time daily to practicing whatever you’re learning. In that time, turn off any devices that may pose as an interruption. Devices such as your cellphone, your instant messenger and email alerts.

2. If you want to master a certain skill, it is crucial that you keeping revising and practicing what you’ve learned. When you practice, you strengthen the synapses of the neurons involved in the task.

If you stop practicing after a certain time, synapses break down and you’ll again forget the skills you’ve learned. This is why if you want to learn, you have to practice constantly but studies show that short periods of such practice time is sufficient.

3. Your most basic needs must first be fulfilled before you can learn efficiently. If you’re hungry because you skipped a meal or if you’re tired because you missed your sleep, then don’t learn. It would only be a waste of time.

Go get something to eat and sleep for a while before you start practicing. It always fascinates me how students can learn anything in school when they didn’t have a good night sleep.

4. Experience it instead of semantically learning it. Once you feel you’re ready – go out and do it. By engaging your five senses, you can learn much faster than you could through a book.

This is because a larger network of neurons are involved thus more synapses are built to learn from the experience – resulting in easier and faster learning. But remember – you must first learn it semantically (theoretically) before you can get the most out of an experience.

By Author: Andre Auerbach
Article: An interesting study was conducted by Prof. Avi Karni and Dr. Maria Korman of the Center for Brain and Behavior Research. They had two groups of subjects: One took an afternoon nap and the other stayed awake. Then in the evening, the two groups performed certain tasks laid out to them.

The results? The group that took the afternoon nap showed “distinct improvement in their task performance” than the groups that stayed awake.

But can the improvement due to the fact that the subjects who did better are just smarter?

It couldn’t be. Because when they slept for the night, both group did equally well the next morning.

They don’t why exactly afternoon naps improve performance but the neuroscientists involved are speculating that napping allows your brain to consolidate that you’ve learned.

Of course, this is not an isolated study. NASA did a similar study on its pilot and found that pilots who took an afternoon nap improved performance by a whopping 34% as compared to pilots who stayed awake.

Another study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that merely expecting an afternoon nap lowered blood pressure. A separate study involving about 20,000 subjects found that for every 10 points your blood pressure in above normal, there’s a 7% increase in your chances of developing cognitive problems.

As to why that might be, the neuroscientists are speculating that because high blood pressure weakens the heart to pump, your brain are receiving less blood – thus less oxygen to work optimally.

Still not convinced?

In his book “Talent is Overrated”, Geoff talked about a study that found top violinists took more afternoon naps than their less successful counterparts.

In fact, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Thomas Edison, Leonardo da Vinci, Napoleon Bonaparte, Winston Churchill and Albert Einstein are some of the shining examples of people who take naps in the afternoon.

It has long been known (perhaps you have a personal experience) that if you don’t get enough sleep, you develop numerous problems in your life that includes irritability, loss of memory, trouble focusing and overall decrease in productivity.

But if you look at the human circadian rhythm (our rhythm of waking and sleeping), we are supposed to sleep not just at night – but also in the afternoon, between 3pm and 5 pm. Not coincidentally, that period of time is also 12 hours since your last REM sleep.

By denying yourself of an afternoon nap, you’re essentially denying your brain of the chance to consolidate your experiences. Brain scans on sleeping subjects showed that brain to be working just as hard during sleep compared to when were awake.

Consolidating your experiences is a process that help you remember the “lessons of the day”. It also prepares your brain for the “lessons of tomorrow”. Thus people who get enough sleep, both in the afternoon and at night, tend to have better memory, are more alert, and better at learning.
