Nursing Humor: A Guide For The Layperson
Author: Bruno Auger
Title: Nursing Humor: A Guide For The Layperson
Article: Work in medical fields can be both physically and emotionally draining. Nurses are often subjected to things that most other people don’t deal with on a daily basis. This is the reason for the development of nursing humor, which is a special type of humor that is often only understood and appreciated by others in medical or health-related fields.
There are many jokes surrounding the interaction between medical personnel or even nurses and patients. These jokes don’t usually contain offensive language; however, they may present the nurse as less compassionate or even unprofessional. Nurses are taught to be kind when dealing with patients and families, but they are human, too. Sharing jokes like this allows physicians or nurses to put a positive light on the negative aspect of their job and cope with patients and situations better.
Medical humor is very unique – it defines medical terms in many different ways. Take for example, a liquid substance known as barium, used in radiology tests. According to certain nurse jokes on the web, the definition of barium can also be defined as the job of an undertaker. Nurses know this humor is beyond the normal experience of a layperson and usually avoid this medical terminology humor so that nobody is offended.
Most nursing websites have a forum thread dedicated especially to funny occurrences, or to nursing humor. This offers an outlet for those jokes that are just too funny not to be shared. Frequently, these jokes are also spread through email or handouts available at nursing stations. There are even a few Internet sites dedicated entirely to nurse humor, and many dedicated to expressions of general medical humor as well.
Nursing humor sometimes is concerning issues that only those in the medical field would understand and fully appreciate. These inside jokes might be about things related to the specific institution where they work. These are usually shared within the field and jokes related to things such as insurance problems or government sponsored health care are shared with family members and friends.
If you have a friend or family member that is a nurse you can probably remember hearing many tales of nursing humor. Most nurses resort to this dry humor to cope with the life and death issues they face daily. Check out a few of the websites that offer this type of humor. Read these bits as if you are nurse and you will have a better understanding of the humor Nursing is more than a job, it”s a growing profession offering an astonishing range of choices and opportunities

Medical Transcription Classes – How To Choose Your Medical Transcription Training
Author: Michele Miller
Title: Medical Transcription Classes – How To Choose Your Medical Transcription Training
Article: Medical transcription classes can be taken both online and off-line for your convenience. If you decide to do an Online Home Study Course, you’ll receive classroom study in the comfort of your own home, and it is also less expensive than taking the course at a private school or a community college. You do not have to earn a degree to find a medical transcription job or to start a medical transcription business.
The medical field is a growing industry with employers and physicians always looking for good workers because this is one of the fields where people will always be needed.
In reality, what you can expect when you have finished your medical transcription classes is a job offer that earns you about twenty-five thousand dollars per year in an “office or hospital setting” as an entry level employee. While this may not be the highest paying job for a newcomer to the medical field, it is a good start for somebody who wants to work for a medical office as a transcriptionist, or for somebody who wants to stay home and do medical transcription.
There are not that many jobs available that you can study for online that are actually a trained profession, but this certainly is one of them. After your medical transcription classes are completed you will be a highly regarded professional who would be able to submit a resume to your local hospital if so desired. This is not a fly-by-night Internet scam by any means, but rather it is a professional training opportunity.
There are many people who have made a career for themselves working from home doing medical trancription while raising their children. I know, I was one of them, and still am. My daughter was 6-years-old when I began transcribing, and I have been working from home as a medical transcriptionist ever since; my daughter is almost 23 years old now.
If you have been looking around the Internet to try to find something to do from home you may have seen a lot of business opportunities that offer you unreal income goals, and you can just smell that they are scams. This is not one of them. This is a chance for you to make an honest income. This is a chance for you to quit your nine-to-five job once and for all.
In examining all of this information, you should really go ahead and see what is involved in becoming a trained medical transcriptionist. This may be exactly what you have been looking for all along.
Before you sign up for any medical transcription classes, you should find out from the company if the instructors are just educators in the field, or if they have ever owned and run their own medical transcription company. This can make a huge difference in the training you will receive. I have run my own transcription company since 1994, and I’m certain there is a difference between educators, and educators that actually have owned transcription businesses.
Some courses charge thousands of dollars, and you are trained by instructors with no experience in the field, and your actual dictation training consists of terrible voice quality training due to schools using out of date training materials that have been overly used.
Be sure you don’t fall into the trap of signing up for anything so antiquated. Make sure you can contact the owner of the training course and ask any questions you may have before embarking on any medical transcription classes and parting with money you may not be able to get back. Why Pay Thousands For Your Training? We Offer Affordable Medical Transcription Training. You Can Learn More About Our Medical Transcription Online Training Courses by Michele Miller, A Home Based Medical Transcriptionist Since 1994, Who Has Been Helping People Start Their Own Medical Transcription Businesses For Years And Now Offers Online Training. Ten Steps To Instantly Master The Art Of Persuasion
Author: Saleem Rana
Title: Ten Steps To Instantly Master The Art Of Persuasion
Article: If you wish you had the art of persuasion, then you want to be more credible, influential, and convincing.
Persuasion makes wonderful things happen. It open minds, shifts attitudes, finds love, wins friendships, influences people, and makes money.
The art of persuasion has been highly prized throughout history. It has been the source of interesting myths because people have long considered eloquence to be magical and as potent as a charm. In Ireland, for instance, legend has it that kissing the Blarney Stone in Blarney Castle will bless you with the art of persuasion.
When you know how to say the right things at the right time, when you know how to use the art of persuasion, you will develop a knack for negotiation and influence.
So, if you want to learn the psychology of persuasion, rather than at a loss for words, here are 10 tips on how to develop the art of persuasion.
1. What do you know?
An effective speaker is knowledgeable. Well-educated about their favorite subject, they can tell you many interesting things about it. They command your attention because they know their subject and can cite facts and figures. They can also hook your attention with interesting interpretations. Knowledgeable people are persuasive.
2. Do you listen?
How do you persuade others? You get them to agree with you. But first, you have to know what they have on their minds. You can only find out by asking open-ended questions and carefully listening to their answers. It’s almost impossible to be convincing if you have no rapport with your listeners. The best way to make others better listeners is to be a good listener yourself.
3. Do you have humility?
Natural born leaders have humility, winning friends and influence people by not assuming an imagined sense of superiority. They have a way of making people feel comfortable around them. Because they have humility, people open up to them and share their thoughts and feelings with them. Natural born leaders are approachable. They are not afraid to be human, even nurturing. Egotistical people, on the other hand, unconsciously find many ways to make feel people resistant and uncooperative
4. Do you maintain eye contact?
When you give someone your attention, you look into their eyes. This shows that you consider them important and they respond to your focus by returning the favor. Looking around or looking away when talking to someone tells them that you do not find them very interesting. While it is not necessary to stare someone down during a conversation, sufficient eye contact will create a sense of rapport.
5. Do you have a sense of humor?
The fastest way to win someone over is to make them laugh with you. It is almost impossible not to like, admire, and even respect someone who is humorous. It is almost impossible to disagree with someone when you feel good about something they have just said, even if the remark was just a witticism.
6. Do you like other people?
Many people do not like other people very much. They would rather interact with computers, machines, or even interesting books. They, in fact, feel uncomfortable with other people. People who have a knack for the art of persuasion are neither preoccupied nor introverted. Instead, they are open and receptive to what other people say, think, and feel. They are approachable and friendly because they have people skills.
7. Are you egotistical?
Someone who is only interested in getting other people to listen to their personal stories, anecdotes, and experiences is not persuasive. If this self-interest expands to bragging, then the only thing other people are interested in is getting away from you as quickly as possible. If they cannot physically leave, for example, they are seated at a dining table, they mentally disengage from what you are saying.
8. Do you smile?
A smile, like eye contact, is a non-verbal, rapport-builder. You can better express what you’re saying when you smile.
9. Do you know someone who can be a role model?
One of the fastest ways to move away from feeling inhibited or tongue-tied is to associate with people who are natural talkers. Listening to them, you will automatically develop a knack for building rapport. You will also learn how to communicate effectively and engagingly.
10. Do you prepare your ideas ahead of time?
In a formal setting, such as at a job interview, a business negotiation, or a persuasive speech, knowing what you will say well ahead of time, will result in a marvelous fluency when you need to present your point of view. So, rehearse and practice what you intend to say.
These ten tips will help you learn how to win friends and influence people. They will make you warmer and more approachable. You will become someone whom others enjoy spending time with talking about things. These ten tips are the next best thing to kissing the Blarney Stone. These communication techniques will make you charming.
By mastering the art of persuasion, you’ll be able to be able to negotiate anything better. You will be more persuasive. You will excel at interviews. You will sell more. You will also be able to positively influence your boss and colleagues. And, finally, your family and friends will start to see things your way. Profile of a Travel Nurse
Author: Amy Nutt
Title: Profile of a Travel Nurse
Article: Travel nurses are nurses who travel to different locations for short-term working assignments. They often work for hospitals, doctors offices, and in the medical administration field. These nurses are usually hired to fill temporary work shortages such as peak work times, maternity leave, and long term illnesses of permanent workers. Medical facilities will pay a high salary to fill short term periods. Assignment can be a few days or several months. An assignment usually runs for about 13 weeks.
To obtain a career in travel nursing, you must first have the appropriate credentials. The usual requirements for becoming a nurse that travels are a minimum of one year of clinical experience and a state employment license granted by the state’s nursing board. You should have a nursing degree from a recognized nursing school and have all the skills needed to fill a particular position. Not all hospitals recognize one year vocational diploma programs. Medical facilities expect the nurses to know what they are doing on the first day of the assignment. That is one reason why they pay top dollar for a nurse. They expect the nurse to have the knowledge and skills to adapt quickly and efficiently.
There are a number steps to achieving a career as a nurse that travels. First, one should apply to a travel nurse agency. These agencies are actively involved with hospitals across the country and with many International hospitals. They have the knowledge of open travel nursing positions and they match the nurse with the staffing needs of the medical facility.
Once a person is accepted into the travel nurse agency, the recruiter will match that person with the assignment. The recruiter will help the nurse with the interview process, obtain essential state licenses, assist with housing and travel, and arrange for the appropriate benefits and pay. The recruiter receives a fee, but the travel nurse receives their knowledge and experience.
Although each state has its own nurse licensing requirements, they do provide temporary licenses. Some temporary licenses can last up to a year. Registered nurses have the advantage because their national board exam covers state requirements. Having a nursing agency recruiter can be helpful as they will assist you in securing your temporary license.
Because of the travel arrangements that need to be made for each assignment, travel nurses tend to prefer recruiting agencies. These agencies are experienced and can make travel arrangements quickly and efficiently. If traveling out of the country, one needs to secure a visa and have proof that they are a graduate of a reputable institution. It is important to maintain a current resume with valid supporting documents.
The life of a travel nurse requires maintaining a constant travel schedule that includes:
Maintaining a Check List: A week before you depart, have a list of all the necessities you need and check them off as you pack. This includes documents, clothing, books, etc.
Research Work Location: Prepare for cultural differences, personal safety issues, and proximity to stores, restaurants, and supermarkets. This will minimize unexpected stressful events.
Move In Early: Moving in a day or two early will allow you to become familiar with you’re your work location and the surrounding community.
Most nurses enter the field of travel nursing so they can travel, experience different work environments, make a good living, and maintain a flexible work schedule. Travel nursing is also an excellent way for recent graduates to find out where they would like long-term employment. The Professional Association of Nurse Travelers, a non-profit national organization representing nurse travelers in the US, is a great organization to consult with regarding a career in travel nursing. There are also many traveler nurse blogs and forums where one can gain more insight into the pros and cons of travel nursing. One of the countries largest Healthcare staffing company can help place you with travel nursing jobs, physician jobs and speech pathologist jobs.

Another Day in the Life of a Trial Lawyer
Author: Kerry Ng
Title: Another Day in the Life of a Trial Lawyer
Article: Have you ever seriously contemplated taking up law and making it your full-time profession? While it may seem to be a very daunting endeavor, there are many people who have risen up for the challenge and have become tops in their respective field. Statistically speaking, only a fraction of those aspiring students who have gone to law school are lucky enough to graduate. And then even a smaller fraction of those students will be able to pass the much dreaded bar exam. While it seems to be it very huge hill to climb for many, it is not completely unattainable if the desire is there.
If you one of those that aspire to practice law and be very successful at it, then it only makes sense that you would want to know all there is to know about lawyers. One of the most celebrated and distinguished law practitioners is the trial lawyer. They are one of the main characters in a courtroom drama. So just what is your typical day for a trial lawyer? Imagine for a moment that you are one of those top-notch trial lawyers in the state. Read on and see how a classic working day would unfold for these lawyers.
A typical day for trial lawyer starts with a quick browse of all the latest news and to see if any of your clients were included in the news. Then you can expect some phone calls from several of your clients wanting to update you on certain developments of their situation. You would arrive in your office to attend the depositions for the day. Just what is a deposition? It is a method ordered by the courts to permit the two opposing party’s to uncover anything they can about the rival party’s case. Just as you are about to start your case, your secretary would transfer an urgent call for an emergency child custody hearing.
As you make your way to court, you try to relax the frayed nerves of your client who has never been in a courtroom before. Besides the emotional stress, the courtroom meeting is a little too much for her to handle and she is on the verge of breaking down. One of the things you would do is to brief her about the possible questions and then tell her to answer as concisely and truth fully as possible. As the trial starts the judge patiently listens to the lawyers as they argue and defend the interest of their own clients. Once a decision is reached, you would then relay the courts decision to your client.
You finally returned your office only to be overwhelmed with the list of callbacks. And of course they’re all urgent. One client comes home to find all furniture is gone and believes that his ex-wife is the culprit. You go over all the important details of the divorce law and what possible options are available for him. You gather as much information as possible and at the same time and advise him to cancel any of his credit cards and any other joint accounts that he may share with his ex-wife.
It’s pretty obvious by now that a typical day for a trial lawyer is not exactly a walk in the park. You constantly have to be on your toes, ready to handle any unexpected developments in the cases that you are handling. Even though it is a tough job, it is still a fulfilling job because you’re helping people who are otherwise helpless in the midst of a legal crisis. While you can make a very good living as a trial lawyer, you soon come to realize that you have a passion for upholding the law and wanting to make this world a better place for everyone. Using Specific Training Courses For Career Development
Author: Chris Kennelly
Title: Using Specific Training Courses For Career Development
Article: At times one might find you have reached a dead end or a point of stagnation, which requires immediate action. Training courses can be used to further yourself in your chosen career path, in terms of potential promotion and development opportunities. In this instance you would need to investigate the training courses available.
If your profession is regulated by a professional body or institute, this might be the best place to start looking for suitable training options, some of which might be a day course or perhaps even a specialized diploma or degree. Usually when one studies a specific and specialized qualification, that is industry specific, you automatically become highly valued and extremely marketable as an asset to any company operating in that specific field.
One might be employed in an industry that has ever changing nature, due to specific regulations or technological advancements, in which instance training courses would be vital to remain ahead of the so called pack and to retain a leading and competitive edge over your competitors. An example of this sort of industry would be the computer industry that really changes on a daily basis. The importance of ongoing training and staying abreast of industry standards can never be underestimated in todays fast changing business environment.
Training courses need not be limited to the career and work related fields. These learning opportunities can be used for self development and interest categories like hobbies. Perhaps you have always wanted to learn how to do pottery; the learning opportunity will be there provided you look in the right places. Here you could start looking in local community newspapers and bulletin boards. There are professionals that seek to share their knowledge for, quite often, reasonable rates.
Training courses will also affect you from a provider point of view, in that you might be a specialist in your specific field, and you might be able to add value to peoples lives by training them in your specialized discipline. Although this might be on an informal basis, as most educational institutions require some sort of accreditation, and if you are going to conduct training seminars this accreditation will also form as an additional marketing plus to bring students and attendees.
The training course and related activities are essential to many people in varying degrees of importance. The course may represent the chance for advancement at work, or might be targeted at the hobbyist, either way it can and does add value to that person seeking further knowledge and self development. Although caution is advised on selecting a provider, in that you should ensure that they deliver on their promises and they are who they claim to be, not some fictitious organization that is waiting to steal your money. Chris Kennelly talks on Sales Training or even Assertivness Training. It can often be difficult to ask other people to do what we want; we do not want to make a fuss – we are scared of refusal; we feel we have no real right to ask for their cooperation. Career Change – Are You Ready For Those First Small Steps?
Author: Martin Haworth
Title: Career Change – Are You Ready For Those First Small Steps?
Article: Now begins the hard questions that you have to explore to make your decision. You need to begin evaluating who you are and what you want in life. Maybe a different job and not a different career is what you really want.
You won’t know until you really take a good long look.
Step One – Identify What Suits You
The first step one should take when considering a career change is to make a list of jobs you want to explore. There are free career tests online to help you narrow down the list and decide what you want to focus on. Next you want to research your list.
Take a good long list and research all the jobs on it. Look into all aspects of these potential occupations you can think of.
Get a book from your local library so you can see all the good and potentially bad aspects of the occupations and get a book on career change while you are there. Career change can be scary but worthwhile.
What would bring you more happiness in your life? Are you looking for more money or are you more interested in affecting social change?
Step Two – Sounds Like A Plan
Any career change is going to require you to set some goals and make an action plan. Are you willing to get further education? Try to talk to someone in the occupation you are interested in.
Grill them about the skills needed, how they got started, what they see as the challenges. Any career change requires some flexibility on your part. Are you willing to go all the way and do what it takes to be successful. Do you feel passion when you think of it?
Trying to get an internship is one way to test your career change. Is it all you imagined it would be? Before you go out and get a degree, answer these questions.
Step Three – Tactics In Your Existing Job
If you are currently employed, keeping quiet about your plans may be the best thing for you. That may mean not telling co workers you are close too. You especially don’t want anything getting to your boss if you are just testing the waters.
Remember many people before you have made a career change and were happier people for it. Finding a mentor to guide you can offer valuable career change advice.
This opens up a whole new network of people for you to gain experience and may eventually lead to a job.
For most of us the thought of a career change is so scary. But, if we all just stayed right where we are right noe, what more can life offer us? Look inside yourself and take inventory of what you want out of life and it is entirely possible that the fear is the only thing holding you back.
Sometimes it only takes one initial step to overcome fear and to get you up and running. (c) 2007 How To Land Your Dream Job. You can have the job of your dreams.
