Lift Your Spirits 18 Quick Fixes for the Winter Doldrums

Author : Jamie Jefferson

This is the time of year when I am always looking for a little lift This string of days before spring unfolds just seem to stretch on and on

Each year, it seems, I try something new at these times Here are 18 things that have worked for me to lift the winter doldrums See if any of these might work for you

1 Try out a new exercise: something you’ve never done before Whether you buy a new workout tape or try the Hot Yoga class at your gym, get moving in new ways

2 Try a new hair color It doesn’t have to be anything dramatic Just ask your stylist to add a few highlights to brighten up your look a bit

3 Give to a new charity With your family, research causes that are important to you and decide on a charitable gift Whether you give time or money, making a new and fresh contribution can really renew your energy this time of year

4 Buy something that screams spring Treat yourself to a new breezy caftan top or some sporty new sunglasses At the very least, go to your favorite boutique and try on a few of the new sandals styles for spring

5 Treat yourself to a bouquet of fresh flowers as a centerpiece for your dining room table

6 Test drive a convertible

7 Find a new fragrance Go to the cosmetics counter and sniff around for something light, airy, and floral

8 Open the windows

9 Get your bicycle tuned up

10 Buy a large, healthy plant for your office

11 Even if it’s still chilly in your part of the world, aim to spend at least 30 minutes each day outside A little sunlight and fresh air can really help to burn off the doldrums

12 Have salad for dinner My kids love taco salad on crisp iceberg Another great choice is Caesar salad with marinated chicken strips

13 Fire up the grill

14 Get a pedicure

15 Add a few colorful accents to your home A few new pillows or rugs can lift your spirits

16 Break yourself out of your routine Sometimes our feelings of hibernation come in because school and work schedules during the winter don’t afford many choices And then we get stuck and a little burned out Each day, change one thing in your normal routine Call an old friend during your lunch hour Drive a new way home from work Bring home takeout from a new place

17 Book a quick, last minute spring getaway for the weekend Ask your friends for the most enjoyable road trip they have taken recently and follow in their footsteps

18 Find a Community-Supported-Agriculture (CSA) initiative to participate in this summer When we started getting involved, we began to really anticipate the arrival of our fresh, organically and locally grown produce each year, and it helped us to pay attention and to appreciate the natural rhythm of the seasons This is a great time to do your research and anticipate the way those fresh raspberries and tomatoes will taste on your summer table

How will you beckon the arrival of spring?

Success is a condition So, if we take a basic principle, such as life, we can find this in action Consider for a moment, a goal of everyday I am alive, means success

Now, a condition is set, and when you measure the result – I am here, and then you find that it is success Now, you are successful!

A personal development strategy then needs some reason to be able to have that condition What is your definition of success? You will need it to construct a personal development strategy of your own

* What Is A Personal Development Strategy?

A good personal development strategy comes not from just plodding or thundering along in personal growth and development, it comes from having a goal, and taking action on subjects that can help you get there

A personal development strategy to get wealthy for example, would include subjects such as mindset for wealth, better handling of money, wealth building and investments

Strategy and tactics are 2 great important subjects However, only one can make you succeed You see, some people are focused only on tactics, but tactics don’t make success

* How To Construct A Personal Development Strategy

Constructing a personal development strategy need not be difficult, it can be easy All it requires is your goals The goals you have, should give you an indication of what you need to focus on, and this in turn will help you construct a plan of action for your personal development strategy, which will lead to success

Create a Meaningful Life By Enjoying the Moment

Author : Alvah Parker

Many years ago my family and I used to go to my then husband’s parent’s home for holiday meals His mother was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for us She spent days preparing all the season’s delights and we came to the table eager to begin the festivities Invariably when 20 minutes later we were happily full she would lament, “It took me 3 days to prepare and 20 minutes for you to eat it!”

We were (still are!) all so used to rushing through life that it was impossible for us to sit back, relax and savor our meal The sad thing is that the only one who noticed was the person who cooked the meal Everyone else just looked at her blankly

An author and nutritionist gave a talk here a few years ago Before she began she gave each person a chocolate kiss and then asked us to unwrap the kiss and eat it very slowly, making sure to really taste each bite Her point was that a small amount of something sweet could be very satisfying if we spent some time to really savor it Have you ever eaten something and then not remembered what it tasted like or even that you ate it?!

Many of us (I count myself in this group) spend time with family and friends but don’t really appreciate the joy of the moment Time goes by in a blur and we get so caught up in activities that there is no time for reflection and really savoring the whole experience

I spend many holidays with my children and grandchildren I notice that I get so caught up in food preparation and making things perfect for everyone that I am too tired to fully enjoy the pleasure of my family What would happen if I made the preparations simpler and then asked everyone to join in and help?

In the past I was alone for the holidays After several years of feeling sorry for myself I decided to do something special for myself instead I love to read and listen to music but my hectic life didn’t allow much time for it So during those times that I knew I was going to be alone I would buy myself a special book that I wanted to read and find a few movies I had on my “must see” list I learned over time to savor the peaceful time to read, listen to music and to catch up on the latest movies Sometimes I even put a CD on and sang with it-all parts as loud as I could Now that is something I would never do in front of anyone else –and it felt good!

It is the little moments in life that memories are made of Finding ways to make an experience joyful for yourself is important Savor the moments and truly enjoy where you are in the moment Consciously think about taking a picture with your mind’s eye to preserve in your memory for the future!

Latest Trends in Computer Training

Author : James Copper

In the past few years, certain common trends have emerged in the market for computing training In the face of difficult economic situations, the corporate sector has started implementing a host of measures aimed at streamlining investments in computer training as well as the personnel who deliver the training In fact, one study notes that 13% of all training is delivered through online means Some of the major trends observed in the world of computer training are:

1 In-House Expertise: Increasingly, corporate are migrating to delivering computer training by its own employees rather than hire external faculty or qualified trainers to do the job The trend here is to depend more on talent found inside the organization instead of those outside it However, it is felt in some circles that since employees who deliver computer training are more of subject matter experts than trainers, there is a gap that needs to be filled by organizations in term of professional IT training As a result, it is observed nowadays that external trainers are being brought in by organizations to train their internal computer training experts on soft skills such as communication, leadership skills and developing effective training material

2 Focus on Self-Learning: Compared to the bias towards theoretical input prevalent earlier, there is a rising focus on ‘learning by doing’ This is being made possible by on-the-job IT training programs that place a lot of important on teaching aids such as CDs, online assignments, and interactive software to learn computers The preferred media in this case is the use of intranet available within organizations as well as online tutorials

3 Individualized Training: As opposed to group training modules that organizations have used for years, there is a rising trend of computer training being delivered on a customized basis to individuals This is more so since with increasing time, people prefer more individual attention and training that has been created to suit their needs instead of generic training that is more applicable at the entry level

4 Need-Based Training: There have been cases in the past when organizations have delivered random group-based computing training without evaluating if it is the best way to deliver training or not This is no longer the situation Nowadays, employees are given computer training more when they need it than being given compulsory training at fixed intervals This just-in-time method of training has helped reduce the gap between the time the training is administered and the time the employee is able to practically implement the skills learnt during the training

5 Dedicated Resource Centers: Instead of depending largely on continuously training its employees, an organization these days prefers to make available a dedicated resource center for its employees on computer training These resources are created on more of a self-tutorial mode that allows employees to access a database of the latest training material, at the click of a button These resources also reduce the dependence on a dedicated training department that has large cost implications

The world of computer training has been changing rapidly in the past few years in keeping with the changes in the corporate world across the globe It remains to be seen how traditional organizations cope with the change and mold computer training needs with the changing times

Share Your Success For Even Greater Success

Author : Steve Tallamy

If you share your success, no matter how large or small that success may be, you will develop even more success By sharing I do not mean for you to go around boasting about every little success you have to everyone you meet, people will soon get sick and tired of listening to you Rather than you do that you should seek out the people that need the same success that you have achieved

The articles that I write for example are a way that I share my success and even my failures with those of you that want to read about them By doing this you are not only helping others but you will become even more successful because you will get a feeling of being appreciated and you will want more success to be able to share even more of your knowledge and experiences with more and more people

You will also be feeding your subconscious mind with the great feelings you are receiving and it will find ways for you to be successful in ways you had previously never thought possible without you even being aware that it is doing this for you Success breeds success, but only if you let it and sharing is a very powerful tool to enable it to happen

Of course it need not be writing articles that you want to do, but everyone of you has some knowledge or skill that you can share in many different ways You may be good at or know about things like these; Gardening, Car maintenance, Organising, DIY, Photography or Cookery The list is endless, it just depends on you

Just take a moment to think about whatever it is you like to do, what are your hobbies, sports or even your job Think about why you like them, what do you know about each subject and how could you share it with others Or maybe you just get on well with people, so why not share your time as a hospital visitor, deliver library books to the elderly or infirmed, help out at a handicapped centre or nursery Sometimes it can be difficult to admit to yourself what it is you are good at so ask your family, friends and work colleagues what they think your best attributes are and base your thoughts around their answers I think you will be surprised at how many things other people think you are good at that you just take for granted and do not consider yourself an expert at Now that I have got you started get out there and share your success and get ready to receive even more!

Steve Tallamy uses his web site http://www.self-developer.com and his ezine Hypnosis Can Change Your Mind to help others from all walks of life, through his own experiences to demonstrate that success via self improvement and hypnosis in particular is possible for anyone to achieve.
