Meditation Are you suffering yet
Author : Marcus Knudsen
If you do meditation you will sooner or later feel bad You can not avoid it Many people have the incorrect concept that people who are in to meditation, yoga and all that, are walking around on pink fluffy clouds, have a heart of gold and aren’t affected by the problems of the world It couldn’t get further from the truth!
Suffering equals progress
What happens to people who meditate is that they bring up repressed emotions, memories and fears If they keep on doing meditation in a successful way they will experience this suffering quite intensely At this point many meditators think that they are failing because they have this wrong concept that everything will just be flowers and rainbows once they start doing meditation In fact, a good sign that you are successful in meditation is that you start feeling bad every now and then This is because of an inner healing process that while working on a particular fear, trauma, memory etc, will bring all the feelings associated with it to the surface It is important to remember that this is not dangerous It means progress is being made
Breaking through fears
One by one these energy blockages will be cleared out They can be small and they can be big The bigger ones often seem to have to do with the fear of death, going insane or deadly ill in some way It is VERY important to remember that you are not It is more likely that what you are experiencing in these tougher cases are the fear of one of those things You will start thinking that probably something I wrong with you, maybe because your heart starts beating harder for no reason Once you get scared you will feel the body reacting and think that you are really going insane or dying for example, but you are not It’s the fear of it you are feeling The fear activates the fight-and-flight function in your body, that you mistake as being you or your body breaking down or going in to a heart attack for instance What is happening is that the body gets ready to basically fight for it’s own survival, but to no use! It’s all triggered by your fear and wrong interpretation of the situation and reaction This is an example of suffering due to fear of “deadly” things, but can be implied to smaller fears that affect you in a less drastic way Just pay attention to your thoughts and reactions and try to see that it is very non logical Then you just sit through your own reactions, learning how you react The next time the same thing happens, you have all ready seen it and will not be as scared Do this time after time and you will get through it very effectively
Once you start seeing this, you will handle all suffering in a more detached, relaxed way You will begin applying the same wisdom to all things in your life You will become more brave, more happy and strong, thanks to what meditation has taught you
The truth shall set you free
So you see, there is nothing wrong with suffering You are not failing You are succeeding You are given a big chance to break through The trick is sticking to the path, to the meditation You can decrease the time spent on meditation if you find it too much It will then feel better and the inner clearing will take a little longer, but not feel as bad
So if you have the concept that meditation is for escaping things, you are very wrong Meditation is for facing the truth, no matter what the truth is, about yourself or the world Isn’t it said that “The truth shall set your free”?
Of course, there’s a lot of joy in meditation too Lots of moments of bliss and all that You will become a better person if you stick to it You will become free, happy for no reason and a joy just being around The things you can experience, and how your life can improve is impossible to describe in words But believe me, it’s worth every moment of suffering But then again, ask yourself these questions: Who is suffering? Me? Who am I? I am not the body I am not my thoughts I am not my emotions Suffering is experienced within the mind and emotions, powered by the thoughts If I am none of these things in which suffering is taking place, then who is suffering?
Good luck!
