Author : Warren Wong

In order to perform the duties required in flight attendant positions, you do need to pass the rigorous training provided by the airlines The competition for jobs in this sector of the airline industry is fierce because of the lure of being able to travel to distant places Plus, when you work for an airline, you are entitled to discounts on your travel for personal reasons Therefore, airlines know that they have many candidates to choose from and will only choose the best The minimum requirements for these positions is graduation from high school, but most airlines today will only accept applicants who hold a college diploma or university degree

First you have to look at the requirements set down by the airline for hiring flight attendants You also have to realize that these requirements are minimums, meaning that they are the minimum that the airline will accept and that they will naturally choose applicants who have more qualifications than these A diploma or degree is a favorable item to have on your resume because it shows the airline that you have tried to better yourself in receiving higher qualifications than they expect According to surveys of flight attendants, a small number have at least one year of college education, but the majority hold a Bachelor’s degrees and some even have a Master’s degree

In order to be hired by an airline, you must demonstrate willingness to relocate if necessary There will be times when you are away from home for several days at a time when you have overnight flights and this should not present a problem between your home and work schedule Airlines are also very particular about the appearance of those they hire as flight attendants New candidates must meet an age requirement of being between 18 and 21 years of age and must not be overweight A man must have his hair cut above the collar and a woman with long hair has to have it swept back from her face In addition, the airline will do a background check to make sure you don’t have a criminal record

Basic Principles In Leadership Development

Author : Dominic Donaldson

Some say that a person is born to be a leader, but this is not true Everyone has the potential to draw upon their strengths to become an efficient and effective leader Many companies are now investing in leadership development courses for managers to improve the way businesses are run We take a look at the elements that will be addressed in such a course

Leadership development is about extrapolating the strengths of an individual and devising methods to put them to greatest effect To enhance leadership skills a variety of methods need to be utilised Text based theory needs to be put into practice to determine the precise way an individual has taken information on board and then put it into practice As each person learns and teaches in a unique way, each leadership development course needs to be tailored to meet an individual’s needs

Leadership development courses will focus on understanding the company as a whole as well as understanding the needs of individuals within a team The goal is to motivate a team to work towards a common goal which will benefit the entire company Organisational and motivational skills will be honed and the ability to communicate effectively will be addressed

Communication is not just about getting a point across effectively, it is also about being able to listen and interpret the needs of people within a team Effective communication does not come naturally to some people, and therefore it is necessary to help someone in a leadership role understand what a team member is trying to say This can be compared to teaching someone to ‘read between the lines’ when presented with a complex text

Those who teach leadership development courses will use their own skills to recognise the personal elements within an individual that can be put to good use Some key factors include openness, approachability, patience and understanding backed up by an air of authority An approachable yet firm leader will elicit respect from those he or she is leading

It is wise to remember that team members look up to a leader and expect them to be able to direct them as necessary It is a position of great responsibility as ultimately it shows others the correct way to behave and progress For this reason it is essential that the correct skills are used to best effect to benefit both the company and the needs of individuals equally

Choosing A Career

Author : Tony Jacowski

One of the most important decisions to take in life is that of choosing a career It is essential to put in a considerable amount of thought and energy when doing this

How To Proceed

To proceed, you must first make a self-assessment This means gathering information about yourself, in order to make an informed career decision by appraising your values, interests, personality, and skills Self-assessment, without consulting others, does not always give a true picture because it is mostly subjective It would, therefore, be prudent to seek the help of family and friends to find out where you really stand, which may lead to information that has a concrete bearing on your career choice You could also seek professional help

Self-assessment essentially comprises of the following four areas:

Value Assessment

While making a self-assessment, try to gauge how important different values are to you These values play an important role in job satisfaction Some of these values would be prestige, security, and interpersonal relationships and helping others Ask yourself questions whether a high salary, interacting with people, having a prestigious job, or for your work to contribute to society, is important for you If you do not consider your values when planning your career, there is a good chance you will dislike your work, and therefore not succeed in it For example, anyone who wants autonomy in his work would feel unhappy in a job where others are the sole decision-makers

Skills Assessment

You should also assess your skills which would help you figure out what you are good at and what you enjoy doing You may be very good at solving mathematical problems, but a complete failure in repairing a fence One can be very skillful in architectural design, but feel entirely at a loss writing a musical composition One may be an expert orator, but have no idea how to fix a car that fails to start Having assessed your skills, you can use the results to either choose a career that suits them, or acquire the skills you need for a particular career

Personality Assessment

This is best left to professionals as it looks at one’s individual traits, needs, and attitudes in terms of plans for the future, current skills and organization needs However, if you can, you could assess which personality type you belong to: extroverts, introverts, intuitive, judging, or perceptive, to be able to evaluate whether you would fit into something you like For instance, a career that involves public speaking would not be suitable for someone who is an introvert

Interest Assessment

Identify your interest area, then assess your skills and abilities in that area Because even though you may like doing something, your physical and mental abilities may not be suitable for it It would therefore be unwise to choose a career simply because you find it interesting A professional that is skilled at helping you make a career choice will ask you about your likes and dislikes regarding various activities, based on the premise that people who share similar interests will also enjoy the same type of work

Adopting this approach would greatly assist you in choosing a suitable career path, which will give you immense career satisfaction and enjoyment, and will be conducive to your overall career growth and development

Sell Yourself with Selling Techniques

Author : Dewitt Shotts

If you’re looking for a better job, then sales professionals might be your best guides to that better job The same strategies that help them sell product can help you land the job of your dreams!

Make no mistake: when you are looking for that better job, you are selling yourself, and your prospective employer is the one who has to buy the idea that you are “the One ” There is nothing demeaning about having someone “buy” the concept that your time on the job and your labor should be chosen above all the others

So, we should ask ourselves, “What kind of information does my employer need in order to understand that I am the person he should hire for the job?” Once you answer that question, everything else falls into place for you to get that job

Many people suppose that they have provided all the necessary information for that better job when they completed a resume or filled out a job application Well, nothing could be further from the truth Most resumes look alike, and a standard application can often prevent the most important information about getting you that better job from getting through You must be prepared to “sell yourself” in those two places where standardization can’t reach: the cover letter, and the job interview

SUBHEAD 2: Sell Benefits; Not Features

COPY 2: Gary Thompson is a professional sales trainer for U S Foods, the second largest broad line food supply firm in the nation When Gary talks about “features and benefits” to new sales personnel, he has an interesting way of explaining what’s really important to the buyer – or, in your case, the employer who is offering you the job

“Suppose you have a metal body, variable speed, reversible electric drill with no-key chuck and a half-horse motor,” he asks a class “What’s the benefit to the you?”

Immediately, people start to volunteer very sensible answers: “The no-key chuck, because it’s convenient!” “The reverse feature, so you can use it as a screwdriver, too ”

“The powerful motor, because it can do the job with less strain; longer tool life ”

Then, from somewhere in the back of the room, a voice says, “Holes ”

“Right!” says Gary “The benefit is the hole you need in the wall or the wood The benefit of the drill may result from the features, like reversibility and power, but the benefit is the thing you want Mention features; sell benefits ”

The same may be said for job seekers Too often, they want to sell the features of the product they have become: education, experience on the job, or personality Those things are good to know – perhaps even essential But the benefit is the thing that will make a difference to the employer who has the job opening What does he or she want or need in that job in order to reach his or her business goals? That’s what we should be selling

SUBHEAD 3: You Are the Benefit; Now, Tell Me Why

When the employer reads the cover letter, he should read about the benefit you bring to the job and to his business Is it your ability to grow your skill along with his business? Is it your desire to succeed in that better job that will overcome barriers to achievement? What is it about you that makes you a good investment for this job?

“There are three ways the customer can benefit from the job,” says Gary Thompson “Time, money and quality of life ”

So, the new employee should be able to demonstrate how he can save time for the company on the job, or make money, or do the job in such a way that the employer’s quality of life improves

Savings of time and money on the job are often associated with skill and experience, but can also come from an aggressive attitude Quality of life can result from a pleasant disposition on the job, or a sense of dependability That’s right: just by proving that you will show up and do the job with regularity and dependability can make an employer much happier with the world If she doesn’t have to worry about whether the staff will be on the job, or whether instructions will be followed while on the job, her life will be much, much better

So, ask yourself: what is the benefit that you can offer an employer while doing the job? But, first, ask yourself what benefit that employer wants most from those who work on the job in the company If you find a match between the company’s needs and your job abilities, then be darn sure that the benefit is communicated clearly and repeatedly

Good luck!

Renewable Energy Research

Author : James Copper

The U S federal National Renewable Energy Laboratory offers a renewable energy program that studies and disseminates news on the latest in energy efficient building technologies Recognizing that construction designed around energy efficiency is crucial to growing the countries energy independence, these renewable energy programs research as well as train U S residents They work closely with manufacturers and others in the construction and building industry, promote renewable energy endeavours and provide information to both consumers and builders about the financial savings involved in renewable energy NREL also works with state and municipal regulatory agencies to improve their building regulations and codes and their energy standards for appliances

This NREL Building Technologies Program supports renewable energy research and development, helping it stay focused on areas such as materials for switch able window technology, thermodynamics, building heat transfer, and engineering of renewable energy heat and cooling systems The engineers and research scientist of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory work closely with the industry, testing and evaluating new designs for buildings, new technology and new energy-efficient equipment for both commercial and residential structures

The primary focus of the NREL building technologies program is the improvement of residential dwellings, commercial structures, the equipment and other components of such buildings, the energy involved in heating and cooling each and delivering the requisite water, the tools to analyze energy consumption, green energy manufacturing, and energy-efficient appliance and lighting standards Key to these missions are such NREL initiatives as its Zero Energy building program, its initiative for Solid State Lighting, and its Electro chromic Window project An initiative called Building America is another important offshoot of the renewable energy focus of the building technologies program NREL also collaborates with a similar building technologies initiative of the federal Department of Energy This is administered by the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy office

Distributed energy is another facet of NREL initiatives This can be used for power to our base loads, during peak time hours, as backup power, as remote power and for heating and cooling Renewable distributed energy refers to the many small and modular technologies to generate power that work in combination with storage systems and energy management to advance the efficiency and improve the overall operation of our electricity delivery, whether connected to an electrical grid or not

NRELs Distributed Energy Program supports renewable energy by researching various technologies that are thermally activated It also develops the EERE program, including its Web site and other communications NREL collaborates as well with the non-profit technology transfer associations and organizations developed throughout the various states

From DER the consumer realizes improved reliability in its renewable and other energy, improved quality of power and its delivery, and the chance for participation in a choice of electric power markets which, through competition, brings down the cost DER can potentially resolve transmission line congestion Even the pricing, strengthen the security of energy and stabilize the electricity grid With the implementation of DER technology dangerous emissions can be reduced and various applications of power and heat can become more efficient

I Fear A Broken Heart

Author : DavidPaul Doyle

Dear DavidPaul,

I am in the process of getting divorced and have met a very wonderful man who touches my soul I am scared of a relationship because of a fear of not being perfect, and my main fear is that of a broken heart I am wondering how this relationship will work out and how I should handle it so that no feelings will be hurt I want to be with this man Will I be? Will it be a forever relationship? Thank you Maggie

“Greetings and blessings to you precious one You ask how to have this relationship without any feelings being hurt Well, you will have to roll yourself up in cotton batting, lock yourself up in a closet and not have contact with anyone or anything, and then not allow your mind to think any thoughts Perhaps then, with a little luck, you may not have your feelings hurt, and yet, even that is probably not possible

“So, in the prospect of beginning a relationship, what you must do is expect and look forward to the opportunity to have your feelings hurt so that you can come to know yourself better, know the areas where you are challenged and pray that those places become healed and whole and filled with faith and love rather than fear, as they are now To have a fear of your heart breaking will allow you first and foremost to focus on your heart breaking rather than to focus on your heart opening and allowing more love, more joy, and more capacity for love to be within you

“The fear of a broken heart is what will create a broken heart Nothing else can actually do it You can be abandoned, abused, violated, unloved, rejected, and none of that need cause you to have a broken heart; it is how you handle the experience as to whether or not you will experience a broken heart You can also have lots of love, support, and kindness in your life and still walk around believing that your heart is broken or will be broken It is strictly your perspective and your experience of this situation that will cause you to have a broken heart or not

“To want to be with this man is one thing and to have it be what is best for you may be something different altogether For you, the most important thing is to pray only for that which is in your highest good and to avoid the prayers that specifically ask to be with this person forever You cannot focus on or worry about the future It is something that is ever-changing based on your own evolution and where you are in your life Something may be perceived as forever and then you could shift your perspective in an afternoon and change the course of your life entirely The future is not important; it is the now that is important How do you perceive now? How do you love now? How open are you now to that which is for your highest good? Allow yourself to pray for peace and openness within your own heart so that you can receive and give love in the ways that you truly desire That is your birthright, and if you truly want it, it will be done

“Blessings to you precious one Amen “

Time Management Tips 5 Ways Boundaries Create Deeper Relationships by Saying No

Author : Paula Eder

Time management tips clear paths for you to live your best life But of course, demands and distractions crop up every day Where are your efforts to keep on track successful? Where do they fall short?

If you resist saying no to important people in your life, chances are you have too much on your plate And this generates enormous stress! Are you trying to protect an important relationship by saying yes when you want to say no? If so, there’s good news Learning when and how to say no, through boundaries, will actually help make good relationships better!

The Power of No

Here’s a fresh approach to finding time by setting boundaries Being ready, willing and able to protect your time by saying no to unwanted demands and distractions strengthens your relationships in these 5 ways:

1 Saying no gives meaning to your yes

It is authentic, and people can trust it You clarify who you are, and demonstrate that you respect yourself and your time If you find this difficult, practice it where stakes are relatively low When you feel at ease saying no, you communicate relaxed confidence

2 Saying no builds trust

People trust you when your actions match your words The more positive control you exert over your time, the more your reliability increases You will find that your stress level goes down as you allow flex time between commitments

3 Being authentic encourages authenticity in others

By setting boundaries, you encourage others to clarify their priorities, in turn Although this may be challenging at first, with practice, you learn how to negotiate to mutual satisfaction This is one of the most important relationship skills! Every time you take this kind of risk, you are relinquishing the illusion of control over others to exercise your actual control over your own time choices

4 Setting limits builds healthy boundaries

In the same way that muscles need to encounter resistance in order to become strong, a relationship needs to encounter its “edges” to develop maturity and depth Being able to say no without feeling guilty demonstrates that you are bringing the full weight of your volition to anything you agree to

5 You bring a healthier, happier you to your relationships

By assuming ownership of your time, you relate to others with openness, not needless stress, resentment and exhaustion And because you are assuming responsibility to meet your own needs, you will be less tempted to try to control others

Saying no is a healthy risk You need to know that your relationships will thrive as you relate assertively and honestly Over time, viable relationships respond positively to fair boundaries, presented thoughtfully And you will experience the satisfaction of knowing that you are creating new opportunities for your relationships as well as your time!
