How To Create A Great E Resume

Author : Tony Jacowski

Let’s take a look at a few important things you might want to consider when creating an electronic resume

Advantages

An individual seeking a job cannot succeed with the simple, traditional resume that is printed and handed over at the interview It should not be the only tool in your kit At least 80 percent of employers now place resumes directly into searchable databases and an equal percentage of employers prefer to see resumes received by e-mail

80% of Fortune 500 companies post jobs on their websites and expect resumes to be sent electronically These stats indicate that at least one resume needs to be there in a keyword-searchable database

Sending your resume in a text-based format directly in the body of a mail message removes all obstacles to an employer’s placing your resume directly in a searchable database

There are some employers who still prefer the formatted version of the resume attached to an e-mail message There are some employers who don’t open attachments due to the fear of viruses and incompatibility among word-processing software

Even so, a formatted version of your resume delivered attached to an e-mail is still considered a form of e-resume

Keywords Are the “Key ”

Job hunting today increasingly rotates around the mysterious world of keywords You should always use them strategically in your resume Employers simply don’t have the time to sit and read the resume in detail They look for keywords when making selections about which applicants they will interview

The bottom line here is that if you apply for a job with a company that uses database searches and depends on keywords to sort out appropriate candidates, that company should be able to locate your resume with the keywords

If that doesn’t happen, the job will go to the person who has taken care to do just that even though you might be a better candidate

Using keywords doesn’t mean that you should shorten your resume Place all your achievements in your resume, including all the responsibilities you have managed in your previous jobs If you have worked on important projects and have achieved awards, be sure to mention them on your e-resume to get the attention of prospective employers

Don’t wait for the interview to reveal these important details

It is very easy to create an e-resume You just need to get the hang of it There are many ways to create an e-resume, but the most common is using text formatting in Microsoft Word

Creating an e-resume will increase your job opportunities Be sure to use this valuable tool in your job search
