Do You Want a Mighty Purpose or a Safe Life

Author : Anita Web Weaver

“This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one ” – George Bernard Shaw

Notice that the quotation above contains the phrase, “being used for a purpose ” The implication is that somehow our life purpose can take us over, consume us and demand everything from us

Notice also that Shaw says that “this is the true joy in life ”

Many artists and people of great accomplishment have expressed similar ideas: Gandhi did and so did Sting in his autobiography, “Broken Music ” The inventor Thomas Edison said, “It was never work; it was all fun ”

All three of these men, and many others, reflect what many of us have the privilege of knowing: that a life purpose that is expressed as work is absorbing, interesting, fun, involving, creative, expressive and often even, obsessive It’s as though we were possessed by a need to accomplish something, create a specific result or solve some great problem

When we are possessed by the ‘daimon’ of purpose, it is as though we have been given a life assignment to fulfill and we will not be content or happy unless we fulfill it

The word ‘daimon’ above is from the Greek and is the origin of our word, ‘demon ‘ Very often the word demon is used in conjunction with the idea of being possessed by an irresistible power or force

In the case of a life work or a life purpose, it can mean the same thing We are taken over by a powerful urge to create, to achieve, to live the life we imagine we could have

The notion of daimons or demons can be scary, though I believe more of us have a daimon of purpose for our lives than we will admit And the reason comes from the power we sense of the daimon itself

Shaw alludes to it: we are ‘used’ by this purpose Sting refers to it in his autobiography as being obsessed with music He has no choice really but to go forward

Many of us are afraid to feel we are possessed by a life purpose We want to be the ones in control or we want to control the pace at which it happens

In other words, we want to stay in our comfort zone and just take a little energy now and then from our life purpose

It doesn’t work that way

If we truly open to our life purpose and the imperative to express it in terms of a meaningful career or life work, we must also open to the possibility that we, too, will be driven, possessed, obsessed by that which we desire to do

We need to remind ourselves that the power of the purpose is what leads us to express our biggest dreams; some would say the soul’s biggest dreams for us

For years, every night before she went to sleep, Oprah prayed, “Dear God, show me what your biggest dream is for me ”

Big dreams and big tasks demand big commitment and openness to those big energies within If we are called to a big work, we’d better have our ‘daimon’ standing by to inspire us and drive us If we leave it up to only our human efforts, the work will likely be human-size and not a work greater than ourselves

What about you?

Are you open to being driven by a big desire? Are you open to being possessed by your daimon in service of some big work?

Are you open to exploring that big career dream you’ve had for a long time but have been afraid to explore? Isn’t it time you dusted off those explorations to see what it might be like to achieve something big?

As I write this ezine, we now know who the Final Four are for the 2009 college basketball championship Don’t you think each of these teams had a big dream? Don’t you think it possessed them? Have you seen the joy of achievement on their faces as they won the game that put them into the Final Four?

How will you feel when you achieve a career so meaningful it blurs the lines between work and pleasure? How will you feel looking back on that mountain you’ve climbed to achieve a life work and purpose you can be justly proud of?

When will you begin?

Important Tips On Career Retraining

Author : James Copper

If you’re considering career retraining, it’s important to understand and acknowledge why you’re considering changing careers and what you want in a new career If you remember back to when you chose your current career, there were certain things about that career that attracted you Perhaps, you were keeping it “in the family” and following your parent’s footsteps, or choosing a career that paid a good salary or you may have taken the career that required the least amount of schooling Lastly, you may have really wanted that career at that time but have changed your mind as time went by Whatever your reason, now that you have the desire for career retraining, the sky is the limit

Before you decide on a specific new career choice, do some research on the job so you know what you’re getting into Career retraining can involve a lot of money, time and training so make sure this is a choice that will be lucrative for your career In other words, don’t choose a career that millions of others are also choosing now or you may be in the unemployment line for a long time waiting for that opportunity to come along Here are some questions you may want to ask yourself before you begin your career retraining:

- Is your goal to earn more money?

- Do you want to stay with this career until your retirement?

- Do you want to have a variety of choices of work or are you focused on one job?

- Do you want to have the choice of where you live or are you willing to relocate?

Once you have the answers to these questions, you’re going to be ready for your career retraining and you’ll have a better idea of what your options involve Many people make the mistake of career retraining for something that doesn’t fit into their current lifestyle, which they have no intention of changing For instance, if you live in a small community and have no intention of moving, keep this in mind when you choose a new career You don’t want to spend a lot of time retraining for a job that will never be available in your hometown Keep this in mind when you choose a job career: availability in your location

Career retraining is something that many individuals are choosing today with the wide choices that are now available in the job market The internet has made it very easy to find educational institutes to help you earn your degree for your chosen career Whether it’s individual courses you need or a Bachelor’s Degree, research will find something for you in your chosen field Career retraining is something that can be very exciting once you’ve decided what you’re interested in doing However, if you’re going to spend money and time on this new career choice, make sure this is definitely what you want to do for the rest of your life so you don’t end up choosing a career as a full-time student

India Has Ample Talent for Outsourcing

Author : Mike Batta

Once in a way, media stories come up which say that India will soon face a severe crunch of talent This may be an attempt to question or even derail the Indian success story of offering outsourcing and off-shoring services to the world But such critics and doomsday predictors are proved wrong by a recent global survey that has clearly brought out the fact that there is no dearth of talent, especially in the IT field in India

In fact, the study says that the shortage of talent is of little consequence in the sub-continent as compared to the other nations of the world A global employment service reporting company, Manpower Inc says that only 13% of employers in India are finding it difficult to fill their employment positions This survey, conducted across 33000 companies in 23 countries, established that 40% of employers in the world face a severe talent crunch

Mexico with 78%,Canada with 66% and Japan 58% lead this fearsome crisis of inability to fill positions Therefore, at just 13% India’s problem appears insignificant However, even in India, certain categories of jobs like sales representatives, accountants, marketing and PR executives, teachers and IT professionals are difficult to fill

World over, this shortage is not limited to IT or manufacturing sectors The demand for blue collared jobs like drivers, laborers, electricians as well as nurses, chefs is much more than the supply This is mainly due to ageing population, low birth rates, migration of people and tendency to take up own businesses

India’s problem of shortage in IT and manufacturing fields is very low mainly because India is already recognized as the next tech super power As a testimonial from one of the users of the India’s omnipresent outsourcing business says “India has grown to be a powerhouse in IT, with business in excess of $20 bn Their main advantage is the English speaking population that can easily understand and deliver an English speaking country’s requirements Raviv Zoller, President and CEO of Ness Technologies, Israel adds, “My company performed well in India because we have grown organically” He recommends that any outsiders looking into doing business in India should adopt a policy of constant listening and learning in India He credits the Indian managers of guiding his company well, being sensitive to their requirements and the basic desire to grow He also says that it is best to employ local managers because they understand the local culture best

Even as India is becoming the global hub of outsourcing and is on its way to achieving a technical super power status, the Indian government also has supported well with improving the education infrastructure This effort will ensure continued supply of talent to cater to the ever increasing demand from countries all over the world Even the people in the remotest village in India have realized the importance of world class education and skill building in order to achieve India’s economic success through the outsourcing route

Indian Tradition has always encouraged hard work from times immemorial Education is recognized as the magic wand that can lead one to riches Even a roadside tea vending boy, Sarvan says ” I too can be a big man if I go to school” This statement epitomizes the feelings of the country’s population With this kind attitude and approach India can never face shortages on talent front Indian Tradition will ensure continued supply of rich talent to the global markets

MJ Batta writes job outsourcing related topics and hosts a job outsourcing research site at Outsourcing America and a special outsourcing report at How Companies Outsource

Finding a Good College Internship

Author : Beth Ibarra

Gaining real world experience while attending college is something every student should strive to do Whether this experience parallels a college major or is something completely different, having a variety of experiences to both put on a resume, speak about in a job interview and apply later in life will become very valuable An internship is something to think about as it provides students tremendous opportunities

A college internship can be a major asset and an added bonus to any college education Getting outside of the classroom and finding out what the real world is really like can be a good lesson for college students

Many students look to find an internship that will almost mirror a future career While this gives them a good introduction to the career or job and lets them get a taste of the field to see if they like it, getting a more general college internship can be just as valuable

Students will get out of a college internship only what they put into it If the student gives it their all, they will get out of it as much as the internship itself allows them to

Some internships can be limiting and restricting to a student eager to learn the ways of the world Many students may find their internships restricting and a waste of time, especially if they waste their days getting coffee, doing dishes and filing papers for their superiors It may give them a taste of office life, but it does not let them develop their skills and learn new things about business and the rest of the world

An internship is only as valuable as the amount of responsibility and learning opportunities it gives to the students participating in the program or job Some students are fine with the internship that gives them almost no responsibility so long as they can put the experience on their resume

While it may boost the resume, when it comes time to interview or apply what they’ve learned in the real world, they will be sorry they did not opt for a more intriguing internship A good college internship will always put the development of the intern as a top priority

Learning basic leadership skills and gaining a basis for which to build off of in the future can prove to be important as the student graduates and enters the working world An interviewer will often notice the difference between students with no leadership experience or ability and one that has been in positions of leadership and understands the role a leader must play in the workplace This is often the key that sets many students apart from their fellow applicants and ultimately lands them the job

Developing their leadership skills and work ethic can help students prepare themselves for the real world after they graduate No matter their major, having excellent management, organizational and sales skills will benefit them in some way

Financial management is also important for many students as they begin to manage their own personal finances for the first time A college internship that allows students to develop all of these skills will prove to be one of the best and most beneficial experiences the student will find

Four Tips for People Who Work From Home

Author : Charles Cruz

In the United States there are about twenty million people that work from home at least one day per week, and rest assure there are plenty more in other countries Working from home has become a very big trend, one that as technology increases will only continue to expand That is why learning how to manage your time and learning effective techniques that will increase your productivity as an individual will become more important

I have been working from home a couple of years now, only to find that being productive is hard to do in a place that is not an office For example if you work in an insurance company the probability that someone is going to step into your office during a meeting to talk to you about the laundry or some other random topic, the conversations you will have during the day will mostly revolve on insurance or something related to that Contrary to that in a home environment distractions abound specially if there are little kids around

The experts recommend a lot of things but here are the best tips I’ve heard:

1 Designate an specific area of work It is best if you have access to a special room in your house that is destined to be a place where you pour yourself into your projects, this is specially important for a work at home mom with kids

2 Stick to a schedule Putting the kids to sleep a few hours, working when you have help from somebody that can watch them while you get work done are just of the thing that can be done to finish those projects you have

3 Be realistic As tempting as it sound rearranging the schedule of everybody that lives with you is actually complicated, most of the time messy The best to go about doing this is doing things proportionally, if the income created by the work done in your home increases, increase what you are willing to spend on a babysitter, or a daycare service Just make sure that it makes sense, if you are about to spend half of what you are going to make, it’s probably not a good idea, but still try to make it up by asking a relative or friend to give you a helping hand

4 Having patience is a must Establishing your schedule when working at home may take some trial and error to find the right solution for you and your loved ones

Earning money from home is not always an exact science, but you will find an optimal schedule for you as time goes on Simply remember to always keep your loved ones informed of your activities and workloads, and maintain open communication about any temporary changes that may be needed to ensure your success

I have created a program that will show you the exact system I’ve used to make up to $300,000 in a single month. You can even watch video proof inside my website. Be sure to check it out if you want to learn How To Be Rich at http://www.illshowyouhowtoberich.com.

How To Conduct A UK Job Search

Author : Shaun Parker

Finding the right job is one of the most important things that you can do Whether you’re interested in an office job, an active job or a job in teaching finding the right job for you is essential We spend so much time in work that it is essential that you find something that you enjoy doing As a result there can be a certain amount of pressure on your search for a job As a result it is important that you take your search for a job seriously and invest time in getting it right

If you want to find the perfect job it is unlikely that it will come to you and as a result it is essential that you set aside time to conduct an effective job search It is important that you see this time as time invested rather than time wasted Because every hour you spend on your job search will take you closer to the perfect job and ultimately the effort will pay off

Write a CV

The Curriculum Vitae is the piece of paper that sells you to the potential employer It should include details of your previous jobs and your qualifications as well as a brief description about you that should give the employer an insight into your likes and interests aside from work

The easiest way to write a CV is to find example CV and use it as a template replacing the example content with information about you It has to be said that writing a CV can be quite daunting for people that have not done it before but it is actually really straightforward You need to make sure that alongside writing a list of the jobs that you have done that you make a note of the roles and responsibilities that you undertook in your job

That way you can tell the employer how great you are without relying on the job title to sell you It is vital that throughout the CV writing process you are positive and emphasise the skills that you have You need to put it on the paper because if you don’t then the potential employer will not be able to guess! After all you need to impress the people that read the CV so that you get invited for interview

Send you CV out

Once you have written a wonderful CV you will have to get it out to as many job listings and as many employment agencies as possible That way you can have a great chance of finding the perfect job Try not to be over selective and apply to as many jobs as possible After all it is not until you have visited the workplace and met some of the staff that you realise whether the job is for you Sometimes even the most boring looking job can be enjoyable if the staff and workplace atmosphere are enjoyable

You never really know until you have worked there a while but be sure to remember that the interview is also to see whether you want to work at the place or not as well as whether they want you to work for them The more people that you send your CV to the more likely you are to get an interview and as a result the more likely you are to get a job After all the more experience that you have with the interview process the more likely you are to be able to grab that dream job when it comes along
